Staying Focused on Long-Term Goals: Tips from Wiss

The mid-year mark of 2022 is the perfect time to reflect on our New Year’s resolutions. It can be extremely challenging to stay on track with long-term goals when certain times of the year become busy and overwhelming. The dreariness of winter and the craziness of summer can throw off our goals for the new year.

Wiss team members have shared their thoughts on how to stay vigilant in facing challenges to stay on track to reach your goals! Here are three ways you can stay true to the promises you made yourself:

Stay Consistent

Jo Anna Dizon, Staff Associate at Wiss, reminds us that “Consistency is key and it’s okay to not be perfect and allow yourself to self-adjust as needed. Split it up with small actionable steps.” Small, actionable steps will help you reach your long-term goals. Taking things day-by-day and focusing on the present will increase consistency, no matter what curveballs life throws at you.

Megan Goldstein, Paraprofessional at Wiss, says, “Slow progress is better than no progress!” We are always so quick to want results, but as with everything else in life, good things take time. Don’t get discouraged–stay consistent!

Hold Yourself Accountable

It’s easy to forget the goals we set in the beginning of the year, or to become discouraged by the work needed to reach success. That’s why Lauren Guaragno, Manager at Wiss, believes “it is helpful to have your goals somewhere that you can always see them so that you are reminded to stay the course.” Try using a planner or leaving sticky notes for yourself on the fridge. Make your goals visible! Remind yourself of why you set that goal in the first place.

Caitie Ellenby, Senior Associate at Wiss, thinks it’s smart to “Share your goals with others, so they’re able to help keep you on track.” Whether it’s writing your thoughts down in a visible spot or telling others your goals, holding yourself accountable will help you reach long-term success!

Stay Motivated

So many obstacles can get in the way of reaching your goals, making it hard to stay motivated. However, there are many things you can do to stay motivated, too! Karen Fierro, Director of Trusts and Estates at Wiss, says to “Picture yourself once you accomplish your goals and that will keep you motivated regardless of all the challenges along the way!” Remember the reason you set that goal in the first place, and envision the proud moment when you finally achieve your goal!

Keyana Touchette, Client Service Associate at Wiss, reminds us to not get discouraged if your long-term goals seem to change over time. Your goals will change as you grow!” Stay motivated and remember that it’s okay for your objectives to evolve. With growth, change is inevitable, even if you make an effort to remain consistent. A change in course is a good thing when you realize it can only help you reach a bigger goal.

As we finish the second half of 2022, we’re working together to reignite the spark that inspired us to set our goals and reach the finish line as a team! Be consistent, hold yourself accountable, and stay motivated. Recognize your inner strength and know that you can achieve anything you put your mind to.

“The greater danger for most of us isn’t that our aim is too high and miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.” – Michelangelo
