In this fast paced world that we live in it is far too easy to forget about self-care. As the holiday season and year end approaches, the to-do lists are only getting longer which is why I love working for a company who cares about prioritizing self-care on that list! When I think of self-care, I think of the pre-flight safety cards that stress the importance of putting your own oxygen mask on first.
My favorite form of self-care is backcountry camping. Day hikes are great for a short escape, but backpacking forces me to disconnect entirely. The trips usually entail walking ten to fifteen miles per day, setting up our tent far from cell phone service or the stresses of day to day life. While it isn’t always relaxing, backcountry camping has helped me face fears and try new and sometimes uncomfortable things. The trails can be a challenging reminder of what you are truly capable of. Growing as a person each trip is such a rewarding form of self-care, I always head home feeling recharged. Once out of the woods, I love to cap the trip off with a huge feast and a massage!
When I don’t have a trip planned my routine acts of self-care often include working out, laughing with loved ones, and getting plenty of sleep. Whether the holidays have you stressed or you are a yes-er with too much on your plate, we all need to prioritize self-care.
