12 Days of Giving – Day 6: Community Food Bank of NJ

December 17, 2015

Community Food Bank of NJ is celebrated in Day 6 of Wiss’ #12DaysofGiving. We are proud to highlight this dedicated organization that fights hunger and poverty in New Jersey. They pride themselves on being the powerful change agent that fills the emptiness caused by hunger with the basic human essentials that people need to survive.

The Community Food Bank distributes 43 million pounds of food a year to more than 1,000 non-profit programs, as well as more than 400 programs served by its Partner Distribution Organizations (PDOs). The Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ), a member of Feeding America, distributes food, provides education and training, develops programs to help hungry people throughout the state, and engages all sectors of society in this mission.

Since their incorporation in 1982, CFBNJ has grown in both the size and scope of their operation.  Through combined efforts, they feed 900,000 hungry people in 18 New Jersey counties. With the help of so many caring individuals, corporations, foundations, houses of worship, schools and community groups, they’ve distributed almost 500 million pounds of food valued at roughly one billion dollars.

The CFBNJ’s ultimate mission is to fight hunger and poverty in NJ by assisting those in need and seeking long-term solutions. They will engage, educate and empower all sectors of society in the battle.

Wiss is proud to support the Community Food Bank of NJ and we have a great time bringing a large group of team members to the warehouse and getting down and dirty helping in any way we are needed. We have separated pasta from a huge boxes to smaller boxes, replaced labels on juice containers and packaged crates with various food items to be dispersed at community centers. Litigation Support Analyst, Jack Tawil talks about his experiences with the CFBNJ, “After having to miss the prior two years, I was very excited to help participate at the NJ Food Bank. Seeing the massive size of the building, the amount of effort that goes into the operation and how much pride the employees have, started the day in a special way. I appreciated having the opportunity to ‘give back’ during the holiday time to those in need. The worst part of the day was when I was told we had to stop! It was truly an amazing experience.”

You can join in the fight and help to fill the emptiness caused by hunger with FOOD, HELP and HOPE. Learn more about Community Food Bank of NJ or see how you can help.
