Today, more than 90 years after Hermann S. Alstede, Sr. immigrated to the United States from Germany, the Alstede Family maintains Hermann’s legacy of “rugged individualism” and the immigrant American Dream through hard work, honesty, integrity, community service and reverence towards God.
Alstede Farms takes soil and water conservation and the stewardship of their farmland very seriously, and have therefore permanently preserved nearly all of the 600 acres of farmland they own and till. The Alstede Family lives by the following terms: health, freshness, quality, integrity, quality of life which they feel are synonymous with their family-owned farm.
Some of the great offerings of Alstede are: Pick Your Own fruits and vegetables, the best Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program in New Jersey, and a fully stocked Farm Store that is filled with the fruits and vegetables they grow, as well as their own local honey, homemade ice cream and fudge, home baked pies, jams, jellies, cider donuts and more! Their own local fruits and vegetables are also sold at Tailgate Markets across Northern New Jersey and beyond.
Wiss had the pleasure of participating in Alstede Farms’ CSA Program where based on an annual commitment to one another, Wiss team members provided a pre-season payment to purchase a “share” of the season’s harvest. We then received a weekly box of a wide variety of fresh vegetables and fruit through the growing season, harvested at the peak of ripeness and flavor. FWRD Associate, Lori Kudish discussed, “I really enjoyed participating in the Alstead Farms CSA in 2015. I had the opportunity to support local farmers, and our family enjoyed farm-fresh produce each week!”
