The Challenge:

The client's product vendor stopped supporting their current accounting system, leading to the following challenges:

Limited knowledge of data and reporting structures:

  • Limited understanding of back-end table structures and relationships
    to create custom reports or dashboards.

Limited Reporting Capabilities:

  • Inability to include all required fields in Deltek Vantagepoint reports or
    dashboards due to software limitations.
  • Required customized reports, like Income Statement by Department,
    Employee Expenses, Unsubmitted Timesheets, among others, in Deltek
    Vantagepoint.
  • Required reports containing intricate financial metrics and organization
    metrics.
  • Manual consolidation efforts needed to collate data due to reliance on
    disparate data sources.

Insufficient Bandwidth:

  • While the client had multiple Power BI professionals in-house, they were
    not available to take on this project.

Roadblocks:

  • By the nature of data projects, roadblocks arise in report creation and
    ensuring the accuracy of numbers.

The Approach:

We helped the biopharma company optimize their data reporting and analytics by integrating various data sources, creating custom KPIs and reports, and improving backend data understanding through Power BI and SSRS.

  • Enhanced the company’s understanding of backend data structures and
    relationships.
  • Developed robust data models to connect various data points to create
    custom KPIs and metrics in Power BI.
  • Created customized reports using SQL Server Reporting (SSRS), which
    were uploaded to Deltek Vantagepoint to be run natively in the interface.
  • Delivered Power BI reports based on complex calculations, such as the
    Gross Margin dashboard and the Utilization dashboard.
  • Connected offline data sources and Deltek Vantagepoint data into a
    single model.
  • Trained new users on dashboard maintenance, republishing,
    scheduling, and configuration to expand their internal Power BI expertise.
  • Provided detailed timelines and kept the project on track with best
    practice techniques.
  • Actively communicated project risks, actions, issues, and decisions.
  • Conducted regular status updates.
